Development Officer — World Vision (Memba, Nampula)

You will live in Tropene, alongside local families, serving as the bridge between community members and initiatives that improve children's well-being.

Your day-to-day in the field

• Build bridges of trust with the community, explaining who the organisation is, what drives it, and how it works — always using local language and pacing;
• Observe and listen to understand the local reality: how people view children, vulnerability, and gender dynamics;
• Map the local key stakeholders — natural leaders, committees, churches, business owners, other organisations, and local government agencies;
• Prepare a social landscape analysis of the community: who makes decisions, how power is distributed, and who needs more support to have a voice;
• Ensure conversations include everyone, not just the most vocal or influential groups;
• Support the creation of new groups where leadership is lacking, and structure the work of volunteers so efforts are not duplicated;
• Monitor the child sponsorship programme: assess community readiness and risks, present the programme to families, oversee the selection of registered children, and act as a bridge between volunteers and the sponsorship officer;
• Attend key calendar events, such as Annual Progress Reviews (APR) and Christmas Cards, ensuring they take place on time and are well organised.

Living and working in Tropene

This role is for those who want to be in the field, not behind an office desk. Your base is the community itself: you will get to know every family, tackle daily challenges using local resources, and see the impact of your work in your own neighbourhood. Once a month, you will travel to the district to meet with the team. The work is physical, hands-on, and daily — make sure this suits you before applying.
