Johanniter International Assistance (JIA) is looking for Health and Nutrition Officers for its operation in Cabo Delgado (the job posting indicates one (1) position).
Reporting to the Health and Nutrition Manager, the holder of this position leads the field implementation of health interventions: primary healthcare, epidemiological surveillance, integrated management of childhood illnesses, and other community health activities, with particular attention to beneficiaries experiencing special hardships and vulnerabilities.
These include Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) activities on maternal and child health, antenatal consultations, immunization, malaria and cholera prevention, nutrition practices, and child development, along with individual counseling.
The role also supports small-scale rehabilitation works (outside the water and sanitation sector) and the procurement of medical and non-medical equipment and supplies, requiring extensive field work and frequent travel within the province.
Behind this offer is Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V., a German Christian-inspired NGO performing benchmark work in first aid, emergency transport, and medical and social projects. JIA — the unit that manages the organization's humanitarian aid from its federal headquarters in Berlin —
organizes its program under its 2027 global strategy, combining three pillars: disaster response and community preparedness, health, and livelihoods, with climate and gender equality cross-cutting all areas of action. Their declared working mode rests on partnerships and localization, with accountability, inclusion, and safeguarding as committed priorities.
The job posting details responsibilities across eight areas — here is what that means in practice:
Behind the technical requirements is a candidate profile: someone who works well in a multicultural environment and builds solid bridges with colleagues and partners, inside and outside the organization. Anyone leading teams in a humanitarian context knows that pressure is real —
which is precisely why the organization values individuals who lead by example, look out for team well-being, and guide colleagues within an inclusive and responsible work environment. If you speak and write fluently in English and Portuguese, negotiate naturally with governments and partners, and take pride in submitting reports on time with reconciled accounts, this role is a great fit for you.
Few places teach public health like a humanitarian program in Cabo Delgado. You will work in alignment with the national health system — from district services to provincial level —, master vaccine cold chain operations, learn how to turn a needs assessment into a funded proposal, and account to top international donors.
For anyone seeking to grow in humanitarian health, this is an unmatched field school.
Regarding terms and conditions, the position offers remuneration according to the organization's internal scale, adjusted for proven experience — exact figures are not published. The announcement lists, by way of example, a 13th-month salary, social security, and an insurance package, in a work environment described as friendly and mutually respectful.

Send everything to recruitment.moz@thejohanniter.org with the exact subject line "JUH-MOZ-H&N Officer 09/2026" — the post explicitly requires this subject line. The deadline is September 19, 2026.
Two valuable notes directly from the job posting: only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and initial screening starts even before the deadline closes — so do not wait until the last minute.
The organization is an equal opportunity employer: candidates are evaluated regardless of background, belief, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation, and women and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Selected team members must adhere to the organization's Code of Conduct and leadership principles; prior to hiring, background checks (criminal records and references) will be conducted —
a requirement to protect vulnerable populations and prevent abuse.
