Ekoba is recruiting a Junior Social Sciences Officer for the EKOBA Talents programme, based in Maputo. This is an entry point for recent graduates: you will develop your skills hands-on, participating in real studies and social development projects.
The real work happens in the field. In practice, you will conduct social research, go out into the field, speak with communities, collect and analyse information, and write reports that feed into real projects. This role is for someone who enjoys getting out of the office and wants to learn by doing.
We are looking for someone with energy for field work, a curiosity for social work, and a drive to learn quickly. The programme values people who arrive eager to grow and contribute to real communities. If you prefer speaking to people over being shut in an office, this role is a great fit for you.
In the field, you will work with communities in different contexts — so we are looking for someone who communicates well and feels comfortable speaking with people from diverse backgrounds.
Working in social research and development means learning to listen: communities outline the issue, the programme designs the response, and the junior officer makes the connection — collecting data, organising information, and presenting what they have learned. Anyone joining EKOBA Talents gains real-world experience in fieldwork, reporting, and analysis.
This is a stepping-stone programme, not a waiting room: at every stage, the work yields visible results — well-executed data collection, a submitted report, a prepared community activity. If your goal is to grow in social sciences, this is the right foundation: projects in Mozambique need people who know how to go into the field, speak with people, and turn information into decisions.
Junior vacancies are among the most competitive: many applicants, few places, and hardly anyone receives a response. After submitting your CV, cover letter, and certificates, you are left wondering whether your application was received — and whether the process is still open. It is one of the biggest frustrations for anyone starting out in Mozambique.
