The essential: Movitel, S.A. is recruiting 1 Legal Officer based in Maputo (City). Send your application in writing, in Portuguese and English, to recrutamento@movitel.co.mz, with the subject line Legal Officer, by October 1, 2026.
About the company
Movitel, S.A. is a telecommunications operator operating nationwide. The Legal Officer will be based in Maputo, but the work extends across all company branches.
What you will do
The role combines day-to-day legal work with compliance and risk management. In practice, your responsibilities include:
- Provide legal guidance to branch management and operational teams.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts — leases, towers and sites, fiber optics, procurement, services, and corporate sales — within approval limits set by the company.
- Keep the contract register updated, monitoring pending obligations and renewal or expiration dates.
- Manage notices, summons, legal proceedings and court records, fines, and claims, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Monitor labor disputes and local conflicts in alignment with the Head Office legal team.
- Serve as the point of contact with courts, authorities, regulators, and external law firms approved by the Head Office.
- Monitor local licensing, permits, and regulatory obligations — municipal, environmental, and network expansion scope.
- Implement the compliance program, Code of Conduct, and internal policies at the branch level.
- Assess legal and compliance risks, update the risk matrix, and report to leadership.
- Support audits, inspections, and investigations, immediately reporting any risk or non-compliance to the Head Office.
Who they are looking for
They are looking for a lawyer with real corporate practice: someone who has already handled contracts, proceedings, and regulators — not just theory.
The role requires rigor in contract analysis and drafting, as well as the ability to identify a risk before it becomes a problem. Communication must be clear with people at different levels of the organization, and absolute discretion regarding handled matters is required.
The function operates under a matrix reporting structure, in continuous alignment with the Head Office, requiring autonomy to decide and responsibility to report.
Before you apply
Here are some practical tips to prepare your application:
- Prepare documents in both languages: the CV and cover letter must be submitted in Portuguese and English — confirm both are ready before sending. The English CV guide for Mozambique can help you structure the English version.
- Email subject: write exactly Legal Officer in the subject line — do not leave it blank or use another wording.
- Organize your CV by relevant experience: highlight years of corporate law practice, types of contracts handled, and any experience with compliance or litigation. Consult the CV templates guide in Mozambique if you need a baseline.
- Cover letter: for a legal role, the letter matters. Use it to connect your experience to the described responsibilities — contracts, compliance, litigation.
- Confirm the deadline: the deadline is October 1, 2026. Send in advance to avoid last-minute issues.
- Interview: if called, prepare concrete examples of situations where you managed a complex contract or a tight-deadline case. The interview preparation guide can help.
