Plan International, an international development and humanitarian organisation, is recruiting a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant for Mozambique Island, in Nampula province.
The successful candidate will work alongside the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) Technical Advisor and will be responsible for turning project data collection into reliable information. It is a field role: some days are spent in the office and others on the road, alongside communities and partners.
If you are comfortable with numbers as well as people — and if you want your work to have a visible impact on the data that tells a project's story — this is one of the best entry points into monitoring and evaluation in Mozambique.
You will report to the MERL Technical Advisor and work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams — common in organisations operating across multiple countries simultaneously. The role is based on Mozambique Island, one of the country's most historic locations, and has a permanent contract.
Plan International has existed for over eight decades and operates in around 80 countries. Its mission is clear: protected children with respected rights, and girls with the same opportunities as boys. Working here means joining a global network of people who believe gender equality is not an optional goal — it is at the core of our work.
We are looking for someone comfortable with both numbers and people. Someone who enjoys turning data into useful information — but is not afraid to go into the field when needed. If a figure does not add up, you own the issue until it is resolved; and when data shows a project is changing lives, that gives you energy.
We also seek someone with a strong sense of responsibility: who respects the confidentiality of community data and treats every study participant with dignity. Because the organisation works directly with children and young people, ethical commitment is non-negotiable — it is part of how we work, not a checklist.
And one last thing: this field evolves over time — new tools, new indicators, new evaluation requirements. If you enjoy learning, you will feel at home; if you prefer repeating the exact same tasks, you will feel uncomfortable.
This is a permanent role — not a short-term project — working day-to-day alongside the MERL Technical Advisor, learning the methods and tools used by the organisation in the field.
You will join a global organisation with a network of accumulated knowledge and expertise across various fields. The work takes place in a multicultural environment: colleagues from diverse backgrounds, different perspectives on the same challenges, building your ability to collaborate across cultures.
The organisation applies a strict child and youth safeguarding policy, including pre-employment vetting, and is committed to equal opportunities throughout the recruitment process.
The original vacancy does not state the salary amount, so we do not list a salary range here — the application portal displays the full job posting with all published details.
Applying is just the first step. After submitting your application, the wait can be long — so the more organised you are, the better.
