SDO Moçambique is recruiting for the position of Risk Director for a bank with operations in Maputo. This is a senior executive position: you will be responsible for the institution's overall risk management strategy — deciding how the bank identifies, measures, and responds to the daily risks it faces.
Transparency note, as stated in the posting itself: the final employer is not publicly identified — SDO manages the recruitment process on behalf of the bank. Process updates are communicated through SDO's official portal, and working conditions and benefits are agreed directly with the employer bank. The role reports to the Management Committee, Executive Committee, Risk Committee, and Board of Directors.
This is the type of position where your word carries weight. You will work with auditors, regulators, and executive board members — and the quality of your work will reach the Board room table. The role requires someone who thrives on responsibility, evaluates scenarios, and can explain complex matters simply.
This is not a role for rushing: it demands rigour and consistency. The bank expects this function to bring stability and predictability to the business, and for risk management to be viewed as a competitive advantage — not an obstacle.
We are looking for someone with solid experience in banking or financial institutions who has operated on the decision-making side — not just operational execution. Someone who understands banking risks in practice and knows how to translate them into a concrete plan.
We need a clear communicator who writes reports that board members can read effortlessly, and who can align the team in the same direction. If you have the maturity to defend a technical stance using data — and the humility to adapt when the context changes — this role is for you.
This is one of the most relevant strategic positions in the Mozambican banking sector. You will be at the centre of business decisions, working closely with executive management, and building experience that few professionals acquire across a career.
The job posting does not disclose the salary range. Remuneration will be determined during the recruitment process based on candidate experience and profile — to be discussed with the SDO team during the interview stage.

This is a senior role with high responsibility: the position requires first-hand experience in banking risk, in decision-making roles, over several years.
