About the role

McDermott International is recruiting a Senior Structural Engineer for its Maputo office. The company has over 100 years of experience designing and building energy infrastructure — from subsea structures to offshore platforms and onshore facilities — and employs more than 30,000 people across 54 countries.

In Mozambique, McDermott is part of the Mozambique LNG project consortium, and this position joins the field engineering team supporting construction. Project context

The field engineering team brings together several disciplines: civil, structural, architectural, piping, electrical, instrumentation and control, mechanical, and process engineers. The team reports to the Field Engineering Manager and bridges the gap between the main office and the site: what is drawn on paper must reach the field right, and on time.

Your role is that of a technical focal point for the structural discipline. You will solve complex problems on site, share conceptual and practical knowledge with the team, and prepare mitigation plans when things do not go as planned — always within the specifications, standards, and policies applicable to the project.

What you will do day-to-day

• Support construction, ensuring materials and drawings arrive at the site according to the agreed schedule.
• Execute required design modifications during the construction phase, in coordination with the main office, including redlining as-built drawings.
• Support quality teams in analysing and resolving non-conformities.
• Help the project organisation interpret drawings, specifications, and other technical documents, ensuring installations comply with approved designs.
• Manage field engineering documentation: keep records updated, complete, and free of lost or improperly superseded documents, and prepare formal reviews when requested by the project.
• Prepare technical clarifications regarding subcontractors' scope of work, drawings, and specifications, and submit them to construction management.
• Track the issuance of engineering deliverables, confirming they align with the schedule supporting site work.
• Participate in 3D model reviews when the client requests changes to the approved design, and coordinate tie-in points with other contractors to avoid impacts on existing facilities.
• Lead project technical meetings, setting priorities with the team, and record decisions in meeting minutes.
